Information Isn’t Transformation: What Actually Helps People Change
We have never had more access to health and wellness information than we do right now.
Within seconds, we can search for workouts, healthy recipes, sleep strategies, stress-management techniques, habit tips and almost anything else we want to know.
And yet people still struggle to create lasting change.
Why?
Because information isn’t transformation.
Knowing what to do and being able to consistently apply that knowledge to your real life are two completely different things.
In this episode of FIT CHICKS Chat, Amanda explores what actually needs to happen in the space between knowing and doing—and why understanding that gap is so important for our own health journeys and for the way we coach others.
What Actually Helps People Change?
Throughout the episode, Amanda explores six pieces that can help turn knowledge into sustainable action:
- Personalization
A strategy can be great and still be completely wrong for the person trying to follow it. Lasting change starts by asking what actually works within someone’s lifestyle, responsibilities, preferences and current reality.
- Simplicity and Clarity
More information isn’t always better. Sometimes it creates overwhelm. Instead of trying to change everything at once, we can identify the one thing that deserves our attention first.
- Understanding Behavior
When we know what to do but aren’t doing it, we don’t necessarily need another piece of information. We need to get curious about why the behavior isn’t happening and what is making it difficult.
- Environment
Our surroundings influence our choices more than we often realize. Instead of relying entirely on motivation and willpower, we can create environments that make supportive behaviors easier.
- Support and Accountability
Real accountability isn’t about being judged for whether you followed the plan. It’s about asking: What happened? What did we learn? And what can we change going forward?
- Mindset
The stories we carry about ourselves matter. Sustainable transformation often requires us to challenge old beliefs and begin collecting evidence that we are capable of becoming someone new.
The Question to Ask Yourself
Think of one health behavior you already KNOW would support you but aren’t consistently doing.
Then instead of searching for another solution, ask:
Do I really need more information?
Or do I need to personalize what I’m doing?
Simplify it?
Understand the barrier?
Change my environment?
Ask for support?
Challenge a belief?
Your next breakthrough might not require learning something new.
It might require learning how to use what you already know.
And for coaches and aspiring coaches, that’s where the real opportunity lies.
The world isn’t short on health information.
What we need are coaches who can see the person behind the goal, ask amazing questions and help women bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually creating sustainable change.
