Hey Chicks,

At FIT CHICKS Academy we love seeing  students and  grads in the Holistic Nutrition Weight Loss Expert Program (HWLE) learn about food and weight loss, and put it all together to create delicious weight loss smoothies for their clients.

Today we are thrilled to share this recipe for you from soon to be Certified Holistic Nutrition Weight Loss Expert, Miranda Barrett. (Who is also a grad of our Fitness & Nutrition Expert program btw!)

Miranda created this recipe for one of the assignments in the HWLE, and excited to introduce Miranda and her delicious recipe with you. Take it away!

Hey! I’m Miranda and I work as a nutrition coach and wellness educator and am the founder of Honestly Nutritious. I work with women who are struggling with digestive issues, fatigue, hormonal imbalance and acne and help them discover the healing power of food.

Helping people has been a passion of mine ever since I was passed from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what was wrong with me in my early 20s. I suffered from digestive distress, burnout, depression, canker sores and adult acne – and my diet was the number one contributor to it all! Since then I’ve been on a mission to help women struggling with the same issues, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to formally train in it. Enter FIT CHICKS!

I originally chose FIT CHICKS to obtain my fitness and nutrition certification, which I figured would be a great way to get into the health and fitness industry. Throughout the program, my passion for nutrition blossomed even more and it seemed like a no-brainer for me to continue on and get certified in their Holistic Weight Loss Expert program.

One of my favourite parts about the program was learning about the digestive system and how 80% of our immune system is located in our gut. Crazy, right?! I also loved the hands on assignments, including making probiotic sauerkraut and of course designing a delicious green smoothie, which is now a go-to many mornings. I found the program gave me so many tools to use in my business, but also in my personal life.

My knowledge in nutrition has grown immensely since first beginning the program and I’m 100 times more confident in my ability to coach clients successfully, helping them achieve their goals. I’m now happy to say that I truly am pursuing my passion and working in a field I absolutely love.

If you’re on the fence about taking the HWLE program or even the Fitness & Nutrition program with FIT CHICKS, I say go for it and take the leap ~ you won’t regret it!

Tropical Green Power Smoothie

Do you turn up your nose at the thought of green smoothies? What if I told you a green smoothie could be so delicious and satisfying even your kids would love it?! When I first started making my Tropical Green Power Smoothie, my kids would fight over who would have the last sip!

This smoothie is a combo of protein, healthy fat and complex carb which means it’s a complete meal in one. Enjoy it for breakfast on the go or as a mid-day snack. Not only does it pack a punch when it comes to vitamins & minerals, but it’s also high in fiber and protein, which helps balance blood sugar, aid in weight loss and help keep your digestive system healthy.

PREP TIME: 5 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

• 1-1.5 cups water (more or less depending on preferred thickness)
• 2 large cups of kale (or 2 large handfuls)
• ¼ medium avocado
• ½ small banana
• ¾ cup frozen pineapple
• 2 tbsp. hemp hearts
• Ice (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Prepare ingredients by removing stems from kale and wash well, cut avocado in half (lengthwise) and scoop out ¼ (discard pit), measure frozen pineapple, filtered water, banana and hemp hearts.
2. Add ingredients to blender, leaving hemp hearts aside. Blend well.
3. Add hemp hearts.
4. Add optional ice if want an icier texture to your smoothie.
5. ENJOY!

Smoothie Tips & Alternatives:

Give your smoothie a boost with these 3 optional extras: Cinnamon (loaded with antioxidants, helps lower blood sugar, has anti-inflammatory properties & tastes delicious), Green Matcha (rich in antioxidants & helps boost metabolism) or Gut friendly prebiotic powder (helps feed your friendly gut bacteria)

Switch it up! Try a variety of different greens in your smoothie, including spinach or romaine.

Swap out pineapple for other tropical fruits such as mango or papaya.

Ground flax makes a great alternative to hemp hearts as it’s high in fiber, omega-3, antioxidants and great at supporting digestive health.

Nutrition Quick Fact:
This smoothie contains a whopping 18 grams of protein & 13 grams of fiber!
